Detroit Tigers vs  Kansas City Royals

USA – MLB

The Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals continue a three-game divisional series on Saturday afternoon. Tigers’ prized young ace Casey Mize aiming for his sixth win of the season. It will be Carlos Hernandez on the hill for the Royals. The season series is even at 7-7 after KC posted a 5-3 win on Friday.

Mize will start for the Tigers. He enters with a terrific 3.44 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP accompanied by a 5-5 record in 99.1 frames on the season. Detroit continues to dominate, winning seven consecutive games entering Friday. They issued the three-game sweep against the Twins and followed with the four-game home sweep against the Rangers. The Tigers are hitting a ton of home runs and the pitching has been effective.

Carlos Hernandez will get the nod for the 14th time of the year in this one. Hernandez was decent in his latest effort, conceding two runs in four innings against the Orioles, and was hit with the loss. The young right-hander has been used out of the bullpen with the exception of one start and has not fared well, recording a 4.91 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP accompanied by a 1-1 record in 25.2 innings of work.

The Detroit Tigers are the hottest team in baseball right now, winning seven out of their last eight games overall. The pitching has been tremendous, allowing three or fewer runs in six of those clashes. The pitching will thrive again in this one with Casey Mize on the mound. The talented rookie has allowed two or fewer runs in four straight outings. He is on an innings limit so expect 4-5 innings from him.

Furthermore, the Royals were swept by the Tigers in the previous series last month and can’t be trusted with Carlos Hernandez on the hill considering he owns an ERA near five.
