South Africa A vs B&I Lions

Rugby Union: Lions Tour

We’re finally getting down to the business end of the tour after a lot of speculation whether it is going to continue or not with all the active COVID19 cases in the camps playing a major role in preparations.

The Springboks are basically playing undercover as the SA A team tonight in Cape Town to get them some much needed game time before the official 3-test series starts. They have fielded several of their RWC winners in the squad and people are already calling this the unofficial 4th test. I do however feel that the time spent together and the games the Lions have played so far makes them the more prepared side, and the SA A team will need some time to get in to their rhythm and get the combos working.

Unlike the actual series where the teams will be playing more conservative, kicking the 3-pointers to keep the scoreboard ticking, we’re expecting a more experimental game here tonight, and hoping that the teams will go all out and give the ball some air. The weather seems to have cleared up just in time for today’s game, and with the new stadium being much lighter underfoot than Newlands it leaves the door open for some nice running rugby.

This will by far be the toughest contest of the tour so far for the visitors, so expect a much tighter battle upfront, but we do still see the lack of game time being an issue for South Africa here.
